<p>I just got accepted RD and a sizable chunk of my decision whether or not to attend hinges on the school's indie/underground music scene and resources. Are there a lot of student bands? Student music culture? Resources? (NYU for example, has a recording studio and tons of practice rooms in dorm buildings that students can use).</p>

<p>Obviously the city has a great music scene, but it's hard without connections and networking to meet people and find people to play music with, find places to record and play gigs, etc. Anyone have insight into Columbia music culture? My other school options are looking like Carnegie Mellon, William & Mary, and NYU (depending on financial aid packages).</p>

<p>There are some student bands, and they’ll occasionally play concerts or release videos, but I wouldn’t say that Columbia has a real indie music scene on par with NYU.</p>

<p>If that’s really your top priority, then I can’t recommend Columbia over NYU.</p>
