my little sis got in... cuz shes awesome haha

2240 SATs, shes a writer/artist blah blah blah (but she's not too bad at science and math either, tho thats more my thing)... ill post more stats later...

her essays were pretty damn awesome (she reused them for all her other apps that she'll be ripping up now)
her teacher recs were tearjerkers... (one of our recs was a common teacher so she let me sneak a peak at sis's)

gpa weighted 4.15
thought my essay was pretty darn good. i guess not.
recs shouldve been good too.
i had led big scale fundraisers and was involved in music like allstate band so i dont think i lost out on ecs.
i had the columbia sci honors program thing for two years.
asian male from nj.

not gonna lie, deferral did hurt and i was down for a couple of hours. but then i started to get over it cause staying depressed wasnt gonna do anything. had a lot of sympathetic friends and nice kids got in from my school so not all is lost on this thursday night.

im moving on to schools like duke/penn. thanks columbia thread over the last month or 2.

Good job!!!!!!! and good luck to all!!!!!

Cornell ED applicant!!!! just 7 more to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Tidal don't worry, I think most of the time they defer people with very good starts who can get in during RD. I think with your stats you are going to get into very good schools. I also think that you will get a kick out of it when you turn down Columbia this summer to accept an offer from somewhere else.

holy crap..

those deferrals are really....

i don't think anyone should be appalled by the stats of the deferee's.. afterall, a bunch of numbers and figures don't show much about an applicant at all. high SAT scores and ranking show that the person is hardworking and is likely a nerd. doesn't mean he or she has the potential using the resources given at columbia to excel within the community.

it's rather shallow to be wowed by a couple of 2300+'s and a few rank 1's and 2's. admissions officers don't make mistakes. they know what they're doing.

I feel so lucky..... I havn't seen any deferral with stats worse than mine... you guys are strong applicants.. keep those grades up and get your acceptance during RD round.

"admissions officers don't make mistakes."

everyone makes mistakes

not exactly mistakes, but they may be inconsistant with some admission decisions. you can't really calll them mistakes when they have to choose out of so many qualified/over-qualified applicants. there are many factors that can affect your decision and the admission video that was posted on the other board illustrates that point pretty well.

we're getting anxious over at the penn board... but congrats!

btw I wana shout a big congratz to SEAS applicants.. so far everyone got in!!! hope to see you guys next year (we might even have classes with each other!!)

it's not called mistakes. it's called preferences. by your definition, everyone who is rejected by one school and admitted by another is a mistake made by the college which rejected him.

lynda no offense but hwen u c like 3 asians in a row with stats lower than u that got in uwant to jump to a conclusion

every single decision that has been posted on this board has depended on more than anything that we put on CC. enough with comparing. the only conclusions we can draw from this are their SAT trends. and in columbia's case, sat's matter much less than you think.
