Namkim, GPA probably matters more to Columbia (and many other schools) than SATs. SATs are only intended to predict (somewhat) freshman year success, but nothing beyond. GPA reflects ability to succeed through increasingly difficult levels (and numbers) of challenging courses over a longer period, i.e.,4 years of high school. Although (teachable) SAT I reflects "potential" a 4-year GPA shows the "actual" and much more, i.e., commitment, staying power, ability to improve and a lot more. Certainly GPA is no guarantee either of continued success in college, but at least it gives a fuller picture of someone's historical performance compared with their "potential" alone.
That's why you've probably seen it said many times around these boards that a high SAT I and low GPA is far less desirable than the reverse. Potential needs to be lived up to, and in the case of SAT I, which has many inherently questionable aspects to it, GPA provides a more reliable gauge overall.

^.^ thanks everyone lol.... yea I think columbia took a very big chance on me.. could possibly be my school. but my grades are in no way columbia standards... now the hard part is keeping them up.. (or raising them) gl next year snack.

and for everyone that didnt get their acceptance, the one thing I've been thinking about alot for hta last 2 days is that.. if they dont take me, maybe its not where I'm meant to be. you WILL be accepted into a school that you'll feel sooo happpy to attend and completely forget about columbia. I'll share the luck I had in getting my acceptance with this final big hug hugs

columbia 2006- my family income is below 30k cnd a year.. you do the math.. it's not possible for my family to spent 1/3 of our income to hire anyone for help ( not that I know of anyone that can help here in BC) anyways normally I'd probably get mad at that question but i'm too happy today to care =p believe me when I say I worked on my application all by myself.. with ths support of my friends and a bit from my family (they are very busy and know very little english.. so only mental support there)

namkim: gpa (high school record) is the most important part for virtually all colleges!!! and why are you even on here? sorry if i'm mistaken, but didn't you say in another post that you're a sophomore? go do something useful with your life, and come back to commiserate in a year at least.

what happened with all the decisions? how come they stopped posting? are they not home yet from a busy school day or sth? or too busy celebrating/getting depressed?

Xulinny don't feel too bummed although it's hard not to because deferral is annoying, but you still have a great chance, just really emphasize your love for the school and your art and try to bring up the SAT IIs. Congrats to all who made it, good luck to all who didnt!!!! I am still waiting to hear....but from princeton : / so nervous
