HOPE CAN SET ONE FREE
-shawshank redemption

violaina,
thank you very much...

I really need such warm words these days.

I've had recurring dreams of attending the best school in the world... I've had recurring dreams of opening the acceptance letter and crying ( tears of joy :) on my bed for hours.... i've had recurring dreams of NYC

^ haha
So, i wasnt alone.

and I'm male... :P

haha its okay
we'll all hug it out.

i barely cry.. like once every few years... this friday... i'm gonna cry regardless if i get rejected or accepted

Firebird44 I'm going to cry regardless as well. Last night I had a nightmare that I opened the email and I was deferred. It was awful. I woke up with hope, but now I'm getting more and more scared.

I'm having my friend open the email with me (she already got into her first choice).
Hugs for everyone

See, for me at this point it's not even about the getting in. It's just about KNOWING. That's what's driving me crazy. Obviously I'll be disappointed if I don't get in, but I really like all my other schools, especially Wesleyan (to which I'll be applying EDII if need be), and I'm rational enough to know that it'll be fine. But... I JUST NEED CLOSURE. Argh. I'm going to go insane by Thursday, I really am.

I don't think we'll be getting our results by Thursday... at least, it's not likely. I spoke to the admissions office and the person who answered the phone(admitantly who's probably just a student), said the 15th was the day the scores would be released. Furthermore, the financial aid representative said to wait until "the end of the week" for my financial documents to be processed. I think Columbia provides financial aid packages at the time of admission, so I'm hesitant to think they'll release the scores this week.

But 15th is a Saturday... And by scores are you referring to the SAT scores?

It is so unlike Columbia to release the decision so late though. They have always released decision so early. But with the surge in ED application number (apparently 25% increase yikes!), it wouldn't be surprising for the release date to be pushed back beyond this Thurs. sigh Guess it's more waiting...

I doubt the 15th(I doubt the student working there knows anything; I don't think an adcom picked up the phone), but I can't imagine them going through the "loads" of paper they still have and putting together finaid packages by this week. It could happen, but I doubt it.

If Columbia sends out finaid packages separately from admissions decisions, then it may be another story. Does anyone know from last year if Columbia sent out finaid packages along with decisions?

it is so heartwarming to read all these posts because I SERIOUSLY have been driving myself insane with anxiety and stress about the decision. I have those recurring dreams about the acceptance. omg its eating me away. What kills me is that we dont really know when we will recieve the email!!!

my worst nightmare is to be deferred. Just put me out of my misery!

NoxLuminis, where are you getting the 25% increase from? Was there any NY Times article that I missed?

And like everyone else, I've been having dreams too...the other night I dreamt I was buying my art history books at the bookstore lol.

I'm really scared to get the email...I go to boarding school, so I won't have a parent to squeeze regardless of the result...I'm thinking of asking a friend though.

^It was mentioned by a poster on this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/columbia-university/427117-whats-up-spec-missing-out-big-stories.html

I guess this increase is why the notification date is pushed back so late...

im the only person in my school applying to colleges in the states. Most dont even know what Columbia is. lol infact, one of my teachers thought Columbia was part of NYU.. haha

It would be great to see any increase in ED numbers verified by an official source. It has, so far, been mentioned only anecdotally without any reference as to where the information has come from. It may be that one poster is reading it from another and taking it as fact. As far as I can tell, the numbers have not been mentioned in any publication.

EA applications have risen dramatically for some schools--but it would be quite something if a school had a 25% increase in ED applications. I'm not saying that it's not possible or true, just that you would think that this would be reported.

I don't think the increase has been substantial, I've read that the increase at Columbia has been extremely modest.

MariaChristina--do you remember where you read that?

^ I didn't think the increase was big either. But if the notification date got pushed back so many days, there has to be a good reason for it. A modest increase wouldn't cause such a long delay right?
