I was not trying to make NYU sound superior. JonnyK you are just a snob my Grandfather graduated from Harvard, My dad graduated from Princeton, I guess, based on your standards of criteria, you could classify my family as "elite" but does my family or myself walk around acting incredibly Pretentious and arrogant based on our education, background, and Intelligence? NO....If you really were, as you say, so "elite" and sooo "superior," I do not think your attitude would be in such rare form nor would it reflect someone so sure of themselves.... People with any type of intellect are usually burdened with bigger problems than making sure everyone knows their "elite"...Usually those who are pretentious and condescending are compensating for some other deficiency, intellectually or NOT...

Now, I never said NYU was a better school than Columbia all I have said, to put it more lamely was that different folks have different strokes...meaning just because a school is more prestigous or respected does not mean that school is better for everyperson. When this thread was originally started, the poster explained that he/she liked both schools and was in need of advic...and as soon as he/she stated her confusion on preference, everyone on this board, immediatly jumped on him/her, stating..."go to Columbia, its raaaaanked higher" rather than asking more objective and logical questions...

I do not mean to sound preachy but i think people become too crazed with one stupid set of ratings...(scammm)

"Now, I never said NYU was a better school than Columbia all I have said, to put it more lamely was that different folks have different strokes...meaning just because a school is more prestigous or respected does not mean that school is better for everyperson."

mikestrman, I'm sure that NYU is a really awesome school, but really, you call people from Columbia elitist snobs rejected from harvard and yale, and say that Columbia is a chop-liver school and then you turn around and call people from NYU far superior. Wait whose being the snob now? o_0
So, go ahead and tell people why they should go to NYU, but don't tell them not to go to Columbia because people are all obsessed with themselves and they're all just harvard rejects, I agree with shizz, that isn't really helping your case at all.

"Now, I never said NYU was a better school than Columbia all I have said, to put it more lamely was that different folks have different strokes...meaning just because a school is more prestigous or respected does not mean that school is better for everyperson."

Mikestrman, you say that now, which is all fine and good, but your earlier statements weren't so diplomatic. Earlier you said that Columbians were just obnoxious HYP rejects, that all we care about is that we "go to Columbia," et cetera. That's very different from saying "different strokes for different folks." I notice you said that you plan to be an art major. In that case, NYU makes more sense. The conversation should have ended for you there, if you indeed simply believed in relativism.

Because the conversation did not end there and because you seem insistent on defaming Columbia, it is difficult to take your new statements seriously. Best of luck at NYU.

guys i know you have NYU pride and that's awesome but is this really necessary? some of this stuff is borderline neurotic, especially when it takes just a couple of clicks to see your post history. mike, you post on April 3rd "cooper union or nyu" and make no mention of columbia, and that's before the revisiting dates. if you say that you visited before, surely you wouldn't be able to make a student body judgment based on a visit like that? if you argue that you visited before that and reached your judgment on the student body of columbia, then it seems so weird that you would even apply in the first place. NYU is a great school and columbia is a great school, and they have very different feels. let's end it here.

I originally chose NYU over Columbia because I was pursuing film. Any other major outside of Tisch...well, I can't understand the choice. but now I'm transferring to a different school (I was reaccepted to columbia and dartmouth, waiting to hear from harvard and yale), and I'm going to study English.

NYU's location beats the **** out of Columbia, but at NYU, you might become a number: know this.
