Columbia or UPenn?

Thx everybody, it’s great to see everyone being straightforwad. And thx expecially, my friend, StrangeLight:) Only in this forum can we create such a great discussion.

But in fact, I don’t really care about prestige. And argubly maybe, people don’t need to do that when they are making a decision to choose one from Columbia and UPenn…

Career is what I really care about. It is true that taking courses in other universities can help us a lot: diversity, prospective, different backgrounds, “comparative advantage” …

However, can it benefit on finding a dream job? And besides, I wonder if… prestige= trumpery?

And also… I do hope the prestige of UPenn or Columbia can help us a lot…

This is not an undergrad type decision. I would consider who you will be working with, visit with them and see who you are most comfortable with. If you are concerned about career, then those letters of recommendation will come in handy later.

Thx vociferous:)

Why? Why nobody answer the quesiton but telling me I shouldn’t choose Stanford just because its prestige…

Numerous people have addressed the ‘prestige’ issue over and over and over again on this board. The gist of it is as follows:

Further, you’re splitting hairs between Columbia and UPenn in terms of school prestige as well as in terms of program-specific ranking. As people have said over and over again, what matters most for grad school is goodness of ‘fit’.

I’m sure if you do some digging you’ll find other posts that express the above sentiments a lot more eloquently and convincingly. But the above is a quick and dirty summary of what’s been beat to death over and over again.

Why are you always thinking that I am thinking about the prestige ???

Especially for the UPenn and Columbia case, they “have the same presige” for god sake!

If I’m asking that there is a great prgram in Michigan State U and at the same time there is a weak program in Harvard which one should I go? You may say don’t go to Harvard because of its reputaion…

But I’m just asking which one can help me to get o good job not asking which one is more famous in the world , and I gonna tell you again that they have the same reputation OK? What the hell are you thinking???

Hey, chill off. I was merely responding to your question:

I admit I wasn’t quite sure what you were trying to get at, but my impression was that you wanted an explanation for why you shouldn’t be hung up on prestige. I was under the impression that you felt that you had been told you shouldn’t choose Stanford just because of its prestige, but you didn’t feel that anyone explained the reasoning behind this point adequately. Hence my post above. It’s possible that I may have misunderstood your post.

Sorry for that, well I start…

I mean I still don’t know which one should I choose, but people started to tell me …“well NYU is also a good choice”

I admit that I apprecitae presige but now I just want to know …Columiba and UPenn, which one is better for me to get a good job , and may also benefit on my application on MBA down the road…

they’re the same. just choose one.
