Columbia ranked #3 dream college in Princeton Review survey

Found this through Bwog. Looks like Columbia is third behind only Harvard and Stanford this year in student preferences. Doesn't even make the top 10 for parent preferences, though.

Yeah, most parents grew up and made their opinions in a world where NYC was a very dangerous place. My mom was convinced that (A) I was going to school in Harlem, and (B) I was going to get stabbed. Had a lot of convincing to do.

Why do parents like Duke so much?? And Notre Dame?

Because they’re from the south (or follow college sports a lot), or they’re Irish.

Both Duke and Notre Dame have the highest percentage of legacy students within the upper band of colleges. Loyalty spawns loyalty.

I really hate it when people claim that Columbia is in Harlem because its neighborhood could not be more different from Harlem. To clarify, Columbia is located in Morningside Heights, which is a very residential and academic community that includes Barnard College, the Jewish Theological School, and St. John the Divine Cathedral. Harlem is just above Morningside Heights, and in close proximity. It is by no means, however, the campus of the university.

this would be why i was upset that my mom insisted as much.
