Princeton vs. Columbia

What do you guys think?

Columbia, definitely. But, that’s just because that’s where I’d go - it’s in nyc! c’mon, there’s no contest  haha

Depends on the kind of experience you want. Princeton University feels like a genuine college. Like when you’re here, you don’t really think of it as Princeton or the Ivy League or anything like that… it just fades away and you just think of it as “college”.

Btw, when you say “Columbia’s in NYC”, it sounds hunky-dory. When you say “Columbia’s right next to Harlem”… not so much.

What kind of college are you looking for? What major do you want to pursue?

I guess one huge difference is that Princeton is not in the middle of a huge city like NYC. Princeton is in fact a very small town, which I find pleasant.

Haha, ray, seriously? Trying to scare 'em into going to Princeton? Columbia is in Morningside Heights. It is the second safest residential precinct in NYC. Of course it’s a big city, so it’s important to exercise common sense, but it’s definitely not a scary place. In fact, students here go into Harlem quite a bit for entertainment, shopping, etc. It’s a great part of the city to explore.

If you’re trying to decide between Princeton and Columbia, the best thing to do is go to the admitted students programs. It will give you a great sense of what life is like at both schools. Honestly, Princeton and Columbia are VERY different, so my guess is that you’ll know which you want to attend after visiting them both.

In my son’s words, Columbia is more “emo” in overall atmosphere than Princeton.
