columbia reqs(premed)

Hey guys! I just wanted to know are there any specific courses columbia med school requires from undergrad students? I know they want 2 semesters of calculus but anything else?

Also, I'm a first year student in college and I really want to go to columbia med school.. I was thinking to contact someone in that department about requirements and just general interest in the MD path. Is that a good idea? If so, any of you know a specific person I should approach?

Also, for premed students, what do you think isolates a person from the pool of all students? For columbia, majority of the students will probably have 3.5 and above gpa, very high mcat score, leadership positions, volunteering experience, community service and basically everything.. so what do you think makes a student stand out for the admission committee?

All med schools have the same pre reqs. You should go to the Med school admissions page and find them out. TO be frank, it’s surprising that you already don’t know these.

And why do you want to go to Columbia Med as opposed to say, Indiana or Michigan med – both which produce many more docs than Columbia? Unless you want to go to a further degree or into academia, name chasing Med schools is really wasteful. IMHO

This would be a better question for Student Doctor Network Forums, not Columbia undergrad forum of College Confidential.
