According to this thread:

oh, that’s from the same person that posted it on the Waitlistee’s thread. Since i think i heard on that thread that SEAS is usually MORE likely to use its WL than CC, however, and CC has had people accepted off the WL already, there may still be hope! Until the definitive email comes letting us know, there is no real guarantee, even if the college counselor is well connected.

Hold out hope for the summer melt guys ;)

Oh mannn, I thought you had a legit article to go with this thread!

Hahaha phew I agree with cellochick92. It’s not time to panic just yet.

Redroses has a good point: “Is Columbia that over enrolled that they already know that? With Princeton and Yale going to waitlist I think all other ivies won’t know until they see those numbers and what happens at Harvard and Stanford.”

I don’t care how ‘connected’ his counselor is…I think that if SEAS knew for sure, they’d tell us. For now, let’s keep our fingers crossed :)

^ and toes And maybe those of use with hair long enough should braid it for added effect

Lol, I feel like such a controversial person now Honestly, maybe there will be people taken off the SEAS waitlist - nothing is ever guaranteed 100%. I was just trying to helpful by sharing what I had heard, and trying to give some credibility to my source, given that there are so many rumors floating around at this time. All we can do is wait and see what happens. I would be happy to be proven wrong if it means people do get off the wait list.

PM me if you want to see the exact email or anything, and good luck to everyone else on the WL.

^ lol yeah, i completely understand =)

It’s just sort of un-needed stress right now…but then, posting was prolly a way for YOU to try and relieve the stress when YOU found out! So i guess it’s better for us to deal/be in denial as a group than just you all by your lonesome :P

^Thanks, something like that The email did say that preliminary counts had shown there would be no WL action for SEAS - so, as others said, I suppose that if people who have enrolled in SEAS start getting off waitlists at other schools, then there could be sort of a “chain reaction” and people will end up getting off the SEAS waitlist.

Yay think positive =) Are you SEAS?

^there’s positive thinking and there’s delusional thinking. I am a senior at Columbia and know people in admissions/recruitment who have told me that seas had a higher than expected yield and barring something extreme will not be using the waitlist this year. I don’t mean to be negative, but these are just facts that you shouldn’t delude yourself about. If you were waitlisted at seas, my guess is that you made it to another great engineering school, so all the best for college.

^yes, we are all aware that them using the WL this year has a chance of <.0000000000000000001%. You’re not being negative, it’s called realism, and it’s useful for us to hear it coming from someone who is at Columbia. However, it is nice to have a little place (i.e. this thread ;)) where we can dream.

Haha not all of us were as amazing as you and were accepted, and thus, we are left to dream and indulge unrealistic delusions :p

^^Right, that pretty much echoes what I originally said. Thanks for the additional information/confirmation, confidentialcoll.

@cellochick92 - Yup, I’m waitlisted at SEAS. To be honest, I’m really happy with CMU, so I’m not too worried about SEAS. I’m also on the Princeton waitlist, which is actually moving, but again, is very hard to get off of. I’ll be happy however it works out. I totally understand that some people really want SEAS, though, which is why it would be nice if I were wrong. Nonetheless, if SEAS had a high yield, there’s unfortunately not a whole lot we can do - but I completely get the whole dreaming/unrealistic delusions thing!

^ lol, yes, gotta love that feeling of complete helplessness. I’m off to CSU myself, and am mostly happy there, though it’s fairly lacking in diversity, which would have been nice. Ah well. Guess this is what happens when you apply to Ivies and haven’t done anything SPECTACULAR to distinguish yourself (read: Rachel Flatts, who goes to high school in the same city as me :))

well if it’s any compensation, I’d say if I were applying for class of 2014 as opposed to 2010 I think I’d likely be waitlisted or even rejected, we had it easier than you.

^Hmm, perhaps. I just feel awful for my baby sisses who are going to have CRAZY admit odds! Haha they better start working on super amazing extra curriculars now if they want to have a shot ;)

Hi, I am a tour guide with the Admissions office and I just posted this in another thread. To clarify, Columbia released most of the SEAS waitlist, but the Committee is still reviewing candidates for Columbia College. Updated correspondence will be sent via email.
