Hello everyone!
So I am at a crossroads for my ECs for the upcoming year. This year, I am participating in the Columbia SHP program. I am a very science-oriented student, and Columbia is one of my top-choice schools (although I am not yet sure if I will apply ED). I am not sure if I should do SHP the next semester since I would have to quit softball. I have been on the varsity team for the past two years. Science is definitely my greater passion, but I also enjoy softball. Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated!
I’d probably recommend staying with softball because it shows greater commitment, but that’s just my take on it.
Unless you are on track to become a recruited athlete for softball, I’d go with your preference which sounds to me like the SHP program. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dropping one HS activity to pursue something you care more about.
Hey, I’ve also been in the program and I would suggest that since you want to pursue science in the future, shp might be best. That way, you can even explain in a college essay or something that you had to make a difficult choice between your two passions but chose the one you loved most, science
