So I'm planning to apply for the Columbia Summer Program but I've read the other threads about the program and from what I've read, it's getting mixed reviews. I'm currently a Sophomore and I live on Long Island so I'd most likely transfer everyday. I'm planning on taking Creative Writing (Advanced Classes) and Law Advocacy and I'd rather learn and gain experience and enhance my skills this summer rather than have fun. Any advice?

I’d like to know more too, esp. after reading the “truth about Columbia’s summer program”

However I do think it would be more laidback, as it is pretty much a profit seeking organization. That said I still think you’d learn (…enough) and have a great experience in one of the best cities in the world :D

Truthfully, I spent all of last summer in the city as well and I do live about 30 minutes away so the setting really isn’t much of a factor.

After reading the “truth about Columbia’s summer program” I was a bit discouraged as well.
I have read from many of the other threads, however, that the writing classes are a bit more…upscale? and a bit more “structured” than the other classes. Not only that but I have also read that the Creative Writing classes are superb but I’m debating if I should go because it still is a LOT of money.
