They have everything. It's sick.
Plus, people set up tables near the campus on the street selling used books for cheap. It's cool. I blew a lot of money on impulse-buys, though. xD

Do people stay on campus during the weekends? Or do most people go home? What do people do if they stay on campus? Are there organized trips/activities? Are they fun? Does anyone actually participate?

I'm debating whether to go home on the weekends or stay on campus...

I know there are organized things, but there is so much to do in New York...why would you want to go home?

well if everybody went home, i wouldn't want to stay up there all by myself.... =/

No one is going to go home =/ A lot of people live nowhere near the city. And even people who live in Manhattan wouldn't, because it's so much more fun being in a dorm away from home with people n_n

I can hardly wait!!! I'm so excited!

10 DAYS LEFT!!!!!

Note to everyone coming not from New York...just please don't act like a tourist...please I beg you. If you are lost(it's ok to be lost) just ask someone on the street or in a store, and they will tell you. Do not walk around with a map(that's like wearing a sign that says rob me), and just don't look around staring at the tall buildings or standing in the middle of the street. This is advice so all of you don't get hurt, which can happen.

Also - don't listen to anyone who says 'excuse me miss, did you drop this?' Because I fell for that and had to be literally dragged away by more savvy people. =/ I thought some guy was just trying to be nice, and so I apologized and thanked him and began walking towards him on the street.. luckily I was with people. x_o And I live 30 min away from the city, and so am used to it.. and yet I'm still so naive.

From Columbia, it's better to walk downwards (left off campus) than right.. it gets really dirty and bad just a few streets uptown, while walking towards downtown is really nice.

I wouldn't advise any white people to walk above into my homeland, it's not that safe if you go uptown. If you walk towards 125th street, it's really nice, so I don't quite know what you are talking about...

Don't wander past like 124th street at night. When I went, this kid missed the stop on the subway and, to make curfew, got off in harlem and tried to run to columbia and was mugged.

Well...duh.

When's curfew?

Oh, and another piece of advice for tourists: Don't take pictures if there are no people in it. Taking pictures of the sidewalk and of buildings just screams "tourist."

New York is really safe as long as you use your head. But anyway, curfew is 11 on weeknights and 12 on weekends.

I have some questions. This is my first time going to Columbia. Um... for some of the people who have gone there... where do you eat on the weekends? I'm a bit nervous for going

Ummm, well, Columbia doesn't provide food on the weekends. So... There is the entire city to choose from.

You are nervous about finding places to eat in a city full of millions of options...?

Even if you don't know where to go, you'll meet native NY-ers who know where to go. Food is awesome in the city!

By the way, how funny would it be if we all met each other in real life and didn't know that we were talking to each other before on cc?

...lol

Guys....be in for a good time.
I went 2 summers ago and I met some of the best people in the world...I still keep in touch with like 9 or 10 of them including 2 very, very chill RAs. There are also those people who 'live in their rooms.' I think I never saw one kid talk or outside till like the 4 week in- a symbol of the anti-social. I think he played video games the whole time.

I was on John Jay 5....I forgot what room though.

I was in John Jay 7 in a corner room.

We probably will meet and not know it. But I'm glad to hear that people had a good time in the past, I've yet to hear anyone say anything bad about it.
