***COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY R.D. APPLICANTS***

Did any of you guys write about the Core in your supplement essay?

I did not receive an email for interview yet. Should I be worried?

@AnnieBot I mentioned it, but it was not the main focus of my essay.

@AnnieBot‌ ^ same

@AnnieBot‌ it was actually the main focus of my essay

wow! You guys are saying that Columbia admissions has non-senior undergraduates conducting interviews? That’s rather shocking to me

I mentioned the core too. Yeah my interviewer is currently a sophomore.

Dang. I feel kind of bad for only mentioning the premed tract.

Rejection incoming

@AnnieBot Based on statistics alone, most of us are going to get rejected anyway. I doubt not mentioning the core will get you rejected. I’m sure plenty of students get in every year without ever mentioning the core in their essays.

@sjsprint‌ i agree. Why would mentioning Core provide anything special. Anyone who wants to go to Columbia should know about it, so randomly mentioning it doesnt give you any special advantage…

I guess. I’m just really worried about only talking about my interest in Columbia’s pre med tract, instead of mentioning my interest in Modern English Literature as well due to word constraints.

@AnnieBot‌ the core was the main focus of my essay, and i actually criticized some components of the core curriculum. idk if that was the right thing to do or not but lets hope for the best

Are those of you with interviews local?

From what I was told during my early decision wait (I was accepted without an interview), interviews are conducted based on availability in the area and/or whether or not you’re a wavering student (meaning in limbo between rejection and acceptance).

Has anybody received alumni interview notice yet? When will it come out regularly?

@Maroonsfan‌ I believe interviews are based on the location of your High School. I have an hour commute to school, so my interview was an hour away, but if you live near your High School it should be local

Hi, mom of RD applicant here…I don’t think my son received any info about an alum interview…should we contact Columbia?

@CATXmom‌ My daughter didn’t either. Does everyone get an interview? I thought someone said in an earlier post only if you’re on the bubble.

@Maroonsfan As in, only if they can’t decide to admit or reject you? That seems unlikely.

@DL43516‌ See post #33.
