Columbia University transfer or freshman

Hey, Guys! I am an international student from Central Asian Country. As a high school senior I applied to Columbia College and I was just waitlisted. This year I am planning to attend one of the local universities. However, I am not really satisfied with that. I know that having studied more than one semester at the university, I cannot apply to another university as a freshman. Also, I read somewhere that transfer students acceptance rate is slimmer that the freshman ones. Is applying as a transfer student will hurt the possibility of my admission? Or can I lie in my application about my study at the current university ( I don’t want to take a gap year)? How can Columbia find out about it? In brief, should I apply as a transfer student or a freshman? I also plan to retake the examinations. My GPA 5.0/5.0, SAT is 1480 (new), sat subject 700 (math 2) and 740 (phys). What are my chances?

Absolutely do not apply as a freshman. You would be a transfer student.

Also, I’m not sure that retaking the standardized tests would do much to enhance your chances as those exams are meant for HS students. You should check with admissions.

I’d suggest you expand your horizons in terms of the colleges you are considering.

Regular decision (for high school applicants) and transfer admissions percentages are about the same, so there’s really no point in leaving out your current schooling in hopes it will improve your admissions chance.
