Columbia is an ivy league school but U Chicago has a great economics program... which one do you think is better?

ooh i can't answer that question but i'm in the exact same predicament. I'm going to the admitted students activities for both schools in the next few days and if nobody else knows, then I'll post back with anything I learn there.

Ya, exactly the same situation here. But I got Stanford as well. Please post back after the admit weekends, because I don't think I will be able to attend.

I just know that Chicago has a great economics department, one of the best in the world, but I'm not so sure about Columbia. One thing they both have going for them, more so for Columbia, is they are both in large cities. Columbia easily owning this advantage, but UC not far behind.

The economics department at Columbia is good but has really been oversubscribed. So many undergrad majors, that they haven't been able to keep up with staffing the classes. They've recently added more math requirements to the major, and that may weed out some of the pre-laws and send them into poli-sci instead. And, they are actively adding professors. But, at least right now, I'd guess an undergrad econ major would get smaller classes and more access to profs at Chicago.
