Hey,
I got waitlisted at Columbia in RD. They've asked me to submit a supplement stating why Columbia is still my first choice. Now I love Columbia and the fact that its in NY..
But to write a supplement on why I want Columbia without sounding overly desperate for the it, would be a tough job.

I know this is silly, but any help on the matter, what to put there and what not to, how to not make it sound desperate and the awesome facts about Columbia for engg, or even in general that I'm not aware of :P would be appreciated.

You should definitely state that you would definitely go if you get in, as yield is an important stat for schools.

Beyond that, write it in a way that you’re comfortable with. Don’t only say why you love the school (and be specific), but talk about what you would contribute and how you would participate. I personally got off the transfer waitlist with a one page poem about Columbia, why I loved it, and what I would add to the community.

Also, for English, they have a lot of events, bringing in published authors of fiction, essays, etc. for discussion panels. They’re incredibly informative; I’ve been to one on the experience of writing your first novel, one that was among three or four people who worked at Columbia and were published fiction novelists with new books out, and one was a really interesting theory on Dickens.
