Columbia's 3-2 Combined Plan from another university?

How practical is this program? Does it end up being a lot of extra credits, etc? Does the extra year (and thus tuition) to get a degree make it excessively impractical when that year could have been spent working, getting a masters or JD or MBA, etc..?

For reference, I would be coming from Georgetown, doing 3 years there and getting a B.A. in probably a math or science before the B.S. in engineering, most likely chemical engineering, from Columbia... Other options are Johns Hopkins' ChemBE program and UCLA's ChemE program... Just looking into the practicality of the Combined Plan and how a Columbia engineering degree compares to one from UCLA or Hopkins.

I think most “american” students get Financial Aid from the program.
