Columbia's Financial engineering program

I called the school of operations research at Columbia today and told them I'm currently studying engineering and I'm interested in getting into their financial engineering program for graduate school in the future. Then they tell me that my GPA should be around a whopping 3.7<->3.8 in order to have a realistic shot of getting in.

Only the top 10% of the people at my school get a 3.7 and getting a 3.8 would put you at top 2%. How the heck do I pull off a 3.7 GPA as engineer? Maybe I should switch my engineering major to the easiest one...(j/k)

Anybody else look into Columbia's financial engineering / operations research program?

http://www.ieor.columbia.edu/grad_fe.html There you go. Sounds like a difficult program...so much math.

Fin. Engineering at Columbia is difficult to get into. Most of the top programs are. However it doesnt hurt to try. To learn more about this topic visit www.wilmott.com

I heard from a rising junior at Columbia SEAS that the IEOR department may be adding financial engineering as an undergrad major soon.

We have Engineering Management Systems as a major at SEAS, I think. I'm in the college, though, so I don't know too much about that.
