My applications from Commonapp/transcripts have been sent out already, but I forgot to send in the ED agreement form. Would it be ok if I sent it seperately via overnight shipping/ does the agreement form have to be at the admissions office by Nov1?

just send it online?

i thought, or at least, i’m pretty sure, that you have to submit all components of your app online, unless you don’t have access to the internet. so send it to your councilor to fill out and have them send it in via internet.

It must be sent directly from the guidance counselor, whether by e-mail or regular mail.

The ED agreement can only be sent by mail in paper form because your parents and GC sign in. I’m pretty sure it can be postmarked by November 1st and still be considered on time.

^ that’s incorrect, the ED agreement HAS to be submitted online unless you don’t have access to the internet. your parents do not have to sign it.

As far as I understand there are two ED agreements. One is submitted online through Common-App and doesn’t require a GC signature. But the other one you have to print out, get signed by your GC, and send in via mail. At least that’s what I did.

…that doesn’t even make sense. sorry, but it just doesn’t.

there is only one ED agreement, and it is on the common app. why would they want you to get two papers that mean the same thing signed by your GC? it says specifically on the common app for columbia’s ED agreement, that they do not require a parent signature.

http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/firstyear/earlydecision

just look at the early decision page. it says nothing about another form. all you need is the one on the common app

@ Wombatlikewoah
The others are right… There are 2 ED forms one for you to sign online and another that you have to show to your GC to sign it. I went to my GC today and he agreed with me that I needed the form. Go on Commonapp and look specifically at school forms, there is an ED form. Make sure to send it out…

I talked on the phone with Columbia undergrad about this, you can send it separately, just make sure it is mailed out by Nov 1 (it doesn’t necessarily have to arrive Nov. 1)

Yes, there are 2 ED forms. There’s one online that only YOU, the applicant, sign. Then there’s another you print out via Common App that includes your GC and parent signature. Think about it this way - applying ED is entering into a binding commitment. You’re probably still a minor, so you need to have at the very least your parents sign off on it, and know under what circumstances you can and can’t break the ED commitment.
Moreover, the Common App site prompts you to print out the ED agreement with parent and GC signatures. If you’re still unconvinced, I say send it in anyway to be safe.

mmm, well, i remember signing an ED form, (online) and then sending the one that needs to be signed by a GC out. those were separate.

maybe that’s what it was, cause on my common app it says that everything is in and i’ve got nothing missing, i already got an email from columbia saying they have everything.

when i go on the common app, to the school forms section, it says that the GC component of the ED agreement is complete, and on the very bottom it says

“Parent/Legal Guardian | Not required.
This institution does not require parent/legal guardian signature for the Early Decision Agreement.”

i went to every section and everything says it’s complete. so i guess i’m good /:

oh my gosh. I didn’t know about this form and I can’t find my guidance counselor until school on Monday, which is November 1. Do you think it’s okay if i mail it out on November 2? Could I fax it? Should I be freaking out right now?

So much confusion over this form! When I called the admissions office they said it could be faxed or mailed. we had guidance dept. do both (better safe than sorry).

I think that the confusion here is because some schools do everything online; the student then has something that says to “invite” an official to sign. If you do not have the prompt to invite, then you should print the form. The student section is pre-populated already with your e-signature. take it to your gc to sign and submit by mail.

to everybody who has not send the form,
I don’t think there is reason to panic, try to send it on Nov 1 then, if not just send it in later, I’m pretty sure they won’t go nuts just because of that one form, or try calling the admissions office and asking

I’m still confused. I submitted the “applicant portion” of the ED agreement online and am currently waiting for my counselor to submit the agreement online.

The online Early Decision Agreement says:
“You have successfully submitted the applicant component of the Early Decision Agreement. The completed Early Decision Agreement will be submitted by your counselor after your counselor and parent/legal guardian (if applicable) have read and signed their respective components.”

The instructions say:
“Your signed agreement will also be signed by your parent or legal guardian (if applicable) and counselor, and will then be submitted to this college by your counselor.”

Under “School Forms” for Columbia, it says:
“Parent/Legal Guardian | Not required.
This institution does not require parent/legal guardian signature for the Early Decision Agreement.”

So, if my counselor is submitting EVERYTHING online, is mailing a separate form necessary? I’m not even sure what separate ED form you guys are talking about (post a link please). I’m pretty positive that once you submit the applicant portion of the ED agreement online, the rest is up to your GC to submit his/her portion online. Am I correct?

@ Mandu go on commonapp and click school forms, there is an ED agreement form, idk i sent it anyway just to be safe

can counselors do it online??!

here it goes: print it out, have them sign it, send it in. sending it on the 1st is fine

I personally saw my counselor do it online…?

Does she need to sign the online one AND mail one in? The Common App site made it seem like the online signature was the only thing necessary…

if your GC is doing it online, I see no point in submitting it in paper. On the common app it should say, if your counselor did it online, “ED agreement - Counselor Component Submitted on --/–/–”.
