My D is interested in playing a D3 sport and is probably competitive. She also is passionate about music, and would like to sing in a chorale group--chamber and/or a capella. I had hoped with a D3 program, both might be possible. However, some of the threads here have suggested that sports and a capella (in particular) require large committments of time.

Is it possible to do both at Tufts and focus on academics as well? Any tufts athletes out there who also sing?

I’m sure it isn’t easy, but it can be done. A friend of mine is on the Tufts XC team (and competed at D3 nationals this fall) and is also pretty involved in music (he’s an electrical engineering major).
Here’s a video he made: [Oh! Darling - YouTube](<a href=“Oh! Darling - YouTube”>Oh! Darling - YouTube)

It depends a lot on which a cappella group you are in. There are some - like the Bubs, which your daughter couldn’t join anyway since it’s all male - where I’m nearly certain that wouldn’t be possible. But there are 9 a cappella groups on campus, and the commitment they ask for in rehearsal times varies a great deal.

But if she’s expanding her search to include other singing groups - chamber singers, gospel choir, so on - that’s relatively easy, especially if she’s one-season athlete.
