Comedy in an essay

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use comedy in one of my essays. I was thinking one of the short ones. What do you guys think?

go for it?

if comedy comes to you, it comes to you. I wouldn't advise sitting down and saying, "I'm going to write a funny essay," because most likely it won't turn out so. If humor happens to show up in your essay, great. Just hope it doesn't sound forced or contrived.

you know, some people are just naturally funny. if thats you, go for it. but most of the time, like phil said, consciously including comedy in ur essay doesnt work. that said, when i wrote one of mine i wrote it completely seriously but when my english teacher read it she nearly died of laughter and said it was 'witty' so yea not to applaud myself but comedy is best when its unintentional (the reason chapelle kicks the pants off letterman anyday, tho dave has his moments)

as long as you use conan obrien style humor, you are fine.
