Anyone know of examples of people who started out at a community college and ended up at a top law school?

Yes, great story. There's a girl in my complex that went from Palomar CC (San Diego County) to UCSD to Harvard Law.

What were her stats?

I had a classmate last semester...His cousin went to Columbia (Why do I know? Classmate used his cousin in an ethnography).

I wish I had asked. At the time I didn't think to ask. She was Asian, if that helps...

my friends brother was a hs dropout, went to a ccc, then to berkeley (haas), got his law degree from boalt. anything is possible if you work hard enough.

where were his stats from ccc?

Not sure, but she tells me he worked his a** off once he decided to return to school. point is, its never too late too turn your life around. schools often look at grade trends, and they can be forgiving if you've demonstrated that you're committed to your education.

I agree...just work hard and you can do whatever you want to do. Also, it not about just getting the scores/grades. It's about the things you do in between. Make it happen, don't sit around and wait for it to happen. You'll get in.

gabe, you are considering on going to law school? I did not know that... Where do you plan (or rather want) to go after CAL?

bump bump bump bump bump

I'm not sure. I am not sure what my options are--my overall GPA (including non uc-transferable) is only about a 3.57 (around 90 semester units completed).

hey...why wouldn't it be possible = (....do LAW schools NOT like CC students? oh no...don't they look at your college gpa..and ex. if you transfer to berkeley..your college gpa will be your gpa for your 2 years at berkeley.

GPA and LSAT are most important. If your numbers are good enough you have a good shot, regardless of the com college route. Research the LAW SCHOOL forum, there is a lot of info on undergrad school and top law schools.
The overwhelming opinion is that your undergraduate school (com college included) has minimal effect compared to gpa and lsat.

My main issue is having so many units at community college, with a less than stellar GPA. I'm worried a 4.0 at Cal won't be enough.

Where are you looking at going? I have like a 3.42 if you include all my classes and I am not toooo concerned about getting into a T14 as long as I do awesome on the LSAT, but who knows about that. You are in much better shape then me... seems like a 3.6-3.7 is good enough to get in just about anywhere except Boalt, Stanford, or Yale. Boalt seems to loooove GPA more than most, and Stanford/Yale are just crazy competitive.

I'm trying to assess my options...

my good friend went from a CCC to columbia undergrad to Georgetown law

bump........

I'm trying to figure out if law schools will count your UC-transferable GPA or your ENTIRE GPA from comm college.
