Let's say you score a 205 on the PSAT. That is above the Commended level for the NM Scholarship Corp. and above the state level for the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Do you have to choose only one designation?

I ask because some college websites seem to give scholarship money for being a NHScholar but not for being Commended. Generally the Commended cutoff is higher than the NHS cutoff so numerically it looks better, but if ds picks the Commended designation, is he leaving money on the table?

TIA

You do not have to choose. You can be both.

I don't know where your son wants to go to college, but I am pretty confident he can claim both on any forms for colleges and he can definitely get any shcolarships for NAtional Hispanic.

Just wondering, is your son bi racial? Or would he consider himself 100% hispanic.

Funny, you should ask. Long story. He's always been identified as Hispanic in school records. His dad and I are of different ethnicities, and his dad didn't feel like HIS ethnicity was represented on forms and refused to be lumped into "Anglo." So we went with my ethnicity.

Okay, thanks. Glad to hear that other mixed kids are exoecting to get the scholarships for these specific scholarships.
