<p>I second that question. My daughter received a 214 in WA and we’re wondering if there’s strategic choice for the two colleges she can report scores to?</p>
<p>I think it’s just an opportunity to tell the college that you’re interested in attending. I don’t think it makes much of a difference when actual admissions come along, but the college might send you some information about admissions, special programs, etc. Anyway, no harm in expressing your interest early, if you REALLY want to go to a certain college.</p>
<p>Reviving this thread, as my daughter was notified by the principal today she made national merit. Her score is 206, in NJ, so end of the road for her as a commended scholar.</p>
<p>Some schools track interest. That would be a good use for your 2 school picks. Also, being commended doesn’t mean “nothing”…it means you are in the top (what did someone say on page one…)50,000 students who took the test! That is something! Celebrate that, don’t compare your student or yourself just to the top 1-2% of students! If you are commended you can be a competitive applicant at many great schools. And, most schools do not have large scholarships for NMF anyway.</p>
