To those of you who have been notified that you have been commended or will move on in the competion , what was your score?

I mean commended scores for 2013.

Has this happened yet? I scored over a 230 on my PSAT and have heard nothing.

Someone just posted that their score of 201 put them in the top 50,000. They received a letter from the CB.

^^ Yeah, that was me. I live in Minnesota by the way.

I think it is 200. Our principal brought the students into him office and had told us we got above 200. However, I could be wrong or that meant 201.

I got a 199 and didn’t get the letter I’m almost sure its either 200 or 201.

The post above is correct 200 put you in the top 50,000 and you meet the criteria for selection. I received the school letter on April 10. None of my students who qualified received their mailings yet.

200+ = commended = top 50000 scorers = top 2-3%.

I got a letter today from National Merit Scholarship Corporation and it says that I am among the highest-scoring 50,000 students…but I only got a 203. I thought I didn’t make it because I live in California and the cut off here is like 221

lalalove7: the National Merit corporation doesn’t take your state of residence at this point of the competition - it only cares about how you sized up to others nationwide for commended status.

lala, the top 50K are Commended. The top 1%ish will be NMSF. That’s where the state cutoff comes in. We won’t know that until the fall.

I got 207 and haven’t heard anything yet.

You will, power.

So my son got a 217 in CA. I assume commended. What is the point in picking the two schools to send the scores too? If he is not a semi finalist what difference will it make?

^^I second that question. Don’t know what the purpose for picking two schools at this point would be.

Also, I assume (from his score) that my son would be Commended and not a Semifinalist. If he were to happen to make semifinalist, wouldn’t he then have to pick a school at that point?

My D received a letter today with a score of 202 in TX. Her PSAT score is apparently 97%, according to the test score sheet, so I’m assuming she’s getting commended, which means absolutely nothing.

In fact, they really need to start choosing winners based on multiple sources, such as PSAT, SAT & GPA. You cannot assess how kids will do in college based on single score taken two full years before starting college.

214 in NY. Commended but sadly I think I’m a few points short of SF

To sp92–really? It means absolutely nothing?

My D got a 202 (I think) and received a note in the mail from our superintendent congratulating her on being a Natl Merit Semifinalist…I’m confused…isn’t it too early for that? And I don’t think her score would merit that?
