i received a score of 3 now is this good or bad for a student who is planning on applying to Johns Hopkins or cornell
I also got 3on my ap lit
And 5 on ap calculus bc
There’s literally so many threads about this.
The general consensus is that: AP scores are mainly used for placement purposes. They are considered for college admissions, but are far less important than GPA and SAT scores. They really won’t matter that much when you’re applying for colleges.
This is my opinion: The only time where AP scores matter is if you got A’s in AP Chem, A’s in AP Lit both semester, BUT you got 1’s on the exams. 3’s mean that you just had a bad day. 1’s mean that your class was not rigorous enough and that your A’s would be viewed differently from a person who both got A’s and got a 5 on the AP test.
The AP scores sort of validate the rigor of the AP class you took. 3’s are perfectly fine. But a bunch of 1’s and 2’s is where the problem begins.
And once again, that was just my opinion.
I got 3 on ap chem without taking any ap courses in school (my school did not offer ap chem course)
I got 3 on ap lit and i got 90 percent on my ap lit class
How would colleges view these conditions??
I agree with @rdeng2614
For Cornell, you need to get a 5 on AP Chem to get out of the CASE placement exam given during orientation week. I thin for calc too. Otherwise, you need to take a placement exam. If you get a 5, then you can enroll in the next level course.
As mentioned above, AP scores are mainly used for credit and/or placement. Colleges will not make the distinction (i.e. they won’t care) if the score is after taking the course or after self studying the course. The thing about AP scores is that you self-report them on your application. If you did not take an AP Chem course and don’t list your AP Chem score, nobody will know. However, since you took an AOP Lit class, you might as well list your score, since if AO’s see AP Lit on your transcript and no score, they may just assume you got a 1.
@yhlee97 Once again 3s are fine as it could have been a bad day. A couple of more questions and you nigt have been at a 4. But if you get a 1 or 2, you’re not really that close to being proficient, and if you had an A in the class, it just means that the class really did not prepare you at all for the exam.
3s are fine, even a 1 or 2 is fine. But getting multiple 1s and 2s coupled with straight As shows a common trend: The Ap classes at that scho are not very rigorous.
