I like the look, but I have difficulty with the thread for individual colleges (alpha listing) - it’s hard to tell, since there aren’t really many posts yet, but how can you tell if there has been a posting for, say, Bucknell without actually clicking on Bucknell?
Also, you left off Sewanee, The University of the South.
Is there an option on these new boards to make polls? i really wanted to know once and for all where CC stands on the 2004 election and other isssues, i think we tried to do a poll but counting each individual post became frustrating.
I guess I can get used to the new forum. I’m just really disappointed that the old messages couldn’t be transferred, there were some really good discussions that are going to just disappear now.
demingy, feel free to continue an interesting discussion here - start with a link back to the old one to allow first-time readers to get up to speed. The old content will remain where it is with the same URLs.
sticksandstones, at the moment polls can be initiated only by staff. (I’m not a big fan of “polling” threads, either, not much useful discussion takes place and the stats aren’t particularly meaningful anyway.)
i like that all of the different thread topics are shown on the main page, instead of clicking on Ivy League and then Yale… lol
i know thats a silly thing,… but i like it
and the new searches are great… being able to search for everything somebody else has said is really cool. i know that there were people on the old forum whose opinion i liked a lot and wanted to read what advice they had given other people and it was such a pain to track it all down. this is much eaiser! thanks
oooo… if you click the little blue number under “replies” next to the thread listing it shows who has posted in the thread and how many times… i like it
Well, this will take a while to get used to but it certainly is a welcome change.
However, I’m not too fond of members having post counts and rankings. When things pick up again, we’ll have newcomers to the site making TONS of superfluous, meaningless posts just to raise their post count/fit in and I feel that could detract from some of the quality of the posts. It’s happened at every other forum I’ve visited.
I still havent been able to correct the time on the bottom of the board. it is 6:20 here and at the bottom it reads “All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:30 PM.” i really am in the GMT -5 time zone…
but if that is the only thing i have to comment about in a bad way… we’re going grand
great work mods!!!
the new forum is growing on me, i like it very much
Thanks, Oboe. We’ll adjust the minute hand on the clock as soon as we can get someone to climb up Big Ben and tug on it. You can adjust the hour yourself by going to My Profile - Edit Options and finding the time zone that shows the correct time for you.
Woah…I was gone for 5 days and look what happened!
Personally, I don’t care for the page layout. Rather than reading 20 or so headings at a glance, only 6 show on a page. I spend more time going back and forth (and waiting for pages to download). Graphically it looks nice, but it just takes way too much time! I already spend too much time here
