I was accepted REA to Harvard and was so excited that I immediately accepted the offer of admission. However, as we approach the RD deadline for other schools, I’ve begun developing some reservations, particularly because Stanford has been another top choice for me. My friends, family, and even my brain say I should go with Harvard and not look back, but a part of me really wants to apply to Stanford. The thing is, I’ve already committed to Harvard. Is there anything I can do at this point?
First off you are probably just getting cold feet/second guessing yourself which many people do after a decision is reached. I’m guessing there is a reason you chose to apply to Harvard EA and a reason why you sent in your money right away. Consider if you want to prolong the process or if you are actually in your top choice college right now. But you can apply to Stanford and if you want to do so you should talk to your guidance counselor. If you apply, are accepted at Stanford, and choose to go there you would have to notify Harvard that you will not be attending and then you can send in a deposit to Stanford. You will lose your deposit to Harvard.
There’s a Stanford REA admit who’s wondering if he should apply to H, P, C, just in case. Here was my reply:
"Will something emerge that washes away why you chose to apply to S under REA?
I seriously doubt it. Regrets? Pfft. Shrug that off. You’re golden. I’d sleep in, go to bed late and enjoy every last minute of the remainder of 2016 – and be content with Stanford. "
It’s ironic that you’re experiencing the same thing but for each other’s school.
You don’t get extra credit for having been accepted at more than one highly competitive school. Presumably there was a reason you applied to H early. Remember that reason.
And in the thread about the Stanford student, I also warned him to not give into any temptation for trophy hunting… (“You know, I got into Stanford but rejected them”). Just sayin…
I agree with @HRSMom. Be glad you got your top choice and enjoy the rest of the year. The process is stressful enough. You are through and got accepted. Congrats.
