I have just committed to the University of Virginia Undergraduate as a first year. I have no idea about colleges because I am a first generation. I am doing my research, but it is actually hard to attain all the information.
-I know that UVA has randomized dormitory placement, but can I at least put my preferences somewhere?
-When do I sign up for classes and how?

Congrats.

If you look through the posts from last summer on this message board, you will see what is ahead of you - class registration, picking roommates, etc.

The UVa Housing division’s website is a good place to start, as well as the website for your college/school and the department website for your major to get a better understanding of course requirements, advising, etc.

As of last year, course registration occurs when you come to UVa for summer orientation. it definitely is worthwhile to put together a list of many classes you may wish to take before you arrive. See the post below from a few days ago about course registration.

You don’t get to pick a dorm, unless you have a valid health reason for a particular situation, such as needing air conditioning.

Also, see the thread for “info for incoming first year students” at the top of this UVa message board. Some of those messages may be a little old, but most things don’t change.
