Hello! I just enrolled at UVA, and I was wondering when and how I can choose where I want to live and which classes I want to take this fall?

You choose classes during your Summer Orientation session. You don’t choose your housing option…you will be assigned to a dorm.

You can find the housing application at http://www.virginia.edu/housing/applications.php, and in your SIS account there is a Class planner so you can see what is available. Class selection occurs during summer orientation, like robertr said.

If you do a search on this site, you will find much info from last summer about the course enrollment process. The main conclusion - don’t be disappointed if you don’t get your preferred courses your first semester. There will be plenty of time in the future when you will have higher priority in course registration as you advance into your second, third and fourth years. It is best to get a few required classes out of the way your first semester.

I’m a transfer and I haven’t done the housing application yet, but is there some sort of survey where they ask you questions about rooming preferences? (like smoking, music while studying, bed time) or is it just straight up like random roommate?

As of couple years ago, the U. asked 3 questions - whether you smoked, whether you were very clean or some lesser degree, and whether you were an early morning or late night person. Many students find their roommates through UVa facebook groups. There also is at least one commercial website that helps people find matches at various colleges.

I don’t know how transfers do college course registration. The discussion above about summer orientation was for incoming first years.
