Do the schools using common apps have the same deadline of Nov 30, regular decision? I am looking at Boston College website, and it says Jan 3 so I am asking here. This is my first off to college, and she is under impression ALL schools using common app have the Nov 30th deadline. School counselor is not very helpful.
Each school in the Common App has its own deadline. Search for the college in the Common App and click on it to see information about what is required to apply to the college and its application deadlines. Here are the deadlines in the Common App for Boston College:
ED2 and RD both appear to have the deadline of January 3, although if your daughter is looking for scholarships, it says that the priority deadline for scholarship consideration was November 1.
Was the counselor talking about the UC system (University of California) or Cal State system? These have their own applications (do not use the Common App) and have a November 30 deadline for all the schools in the system.
Colleges all have different dates. There are some that keep taking the common app well into spring and even summer.
Some high school staff members kick into self preservation mode and set arbitrary dates that applications need to be submitted by just to survive the holidays. After this first round of ED, EA, and rolling admissions notifications, there can be a flurry of new applications for RD and ED2 that require additional steps for staff just as the holiday break begins. I can see a school counselor setting that as a date to have everything submitted by.
