Common app email

Hi I’m a junior and application season is around the corner. I was wondering if I should create a new email account just for the common app. Do colleges send a lot of emails to the email you sign up with for the common app? When do these emails usually get sent? Thanks!

If it helps you keep your college stuff separate from the rest of your e-mail, I would set up a separate account. My kids did this. Also a suggestion, make your e-mail something professional. JohnSmith@xxx.com sounds a lot better than HSPartyAnimal@xxx.com.

Thanks @123Mom456. I’ve taken the act but I haven’t received many emails from colleges. Do you know when they start to email me? Is it after I start the common app?

My DS’s school used Naviance and between the notifications from his guidance counselor’s actions and the colleges, he received a lot of emails. I would recommend creating one that will go to your phone with a professional name as suggested above. He received emails when transcripts were sent and received, etc.

FYI- now that DS is admitted and paid his enrollment, his new college provided a school email account and will send all school notifications to that address.

My DS started receiving a lot of e-mails after using that e-mail address to register for the SAT/ACTs.

I did the ACT already and signed up for emails but have only gotten like 1-2 emails a week and I did pretty well on it.
