Common App Essay about Cheating?

Hi everyone! I have a question about if this idea for topic #3 (Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?) is good.

I came from a really competitive school, where, unfortunately, cheating was a problem. Those who cheated often were in high ranks and were trying to get even higher, so they often were not caught or punished. I had always had a problem with this, so as an officer of the honor society, I tried to fix this. I'd like to write specifically about an incident when I witnessed possible academic dishonesty and reported it to the teachers (just what I had seen/heard, not my conclusions) despite my friend and basically the whole school culture telling me not to.

I know that this subject is pretty risky, as it could present my school in a bad light... Please let me know what you think! Thanks!!

PS: I moved to a different school after my sophomore year. The honor code here is much better! :)

You have to carefully consider if you can accomplish the needs of the essay with this topic. The goal isn’t just to satisfy the prompt; remember, it’s to show your college-relevant qualities and strengths. This one will need balance. You will want to show your principles without sounding one-dimensional.
