Common App essay topic and suggestions

Im planning on submitting most of my college applications through the common app and am thinking about choosing this prompt for my essay: Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

Im 100% palestinian so im planning on discussing the palestinian occupation and how it has affected me while i live in the U.S. Throughout the essay, im going to talk about how i visit palestine every other year to stay in touch with my culture, how i started an MSA (muslim student association) to discuss these controversial topics, and how im going to teach an Ap world history class for a week or two on the history of palestine and the current issue going on today through debates, movies, and lecture.

Before i actually begin, it would be great if i could get some feedback to see whether or not the essay has potential. (im applying to all the ivy leagues, university of chicago, and basically the top twenty schools in the U.S) and i really want by essay to shine and be unique to help my chances of getting in and help portray who i really am

thanks

I think it would be really unique , a great prompt to be honest.
HOWEVER, I do think -OPINION- that maybe an admission officer will not “agree” with your point of view when you described it as “Occupation” and maybe they will judge you according to that. I know this sounds stupid and I know that I have no knowledge of the admission process (( I’m Arabic myself and not living in the US )) , but really emotions MUST always get involved in such topics.

Again the above is just my opinion, not more than that.

I think this has AMAZING potential. However, you need to be careful. Don’t attack any groups of people (including israel or the USA’s policy positions) in your essay. Focus on yourself and the problems in Palestine, don’t directly say however what these problems are from if you have to mention that they aren’t being allowed statehood or things like that. If you get a conservative or Jewish essay reader this topic could make them not like you IF you portray it badly or get too emotional/angry.
