<p>Ok so I nead some advice on what would be best for my common app essay.</p>
<p>I have played basketball my whole life and have been on varsity since sophomore year we have won two state championships. So I could write about this?</p>
<p>Or my mother died of cancer when I was three and when I was four another man moved in with my dad and i think it's self explanatory of why. </p>
<p>So which would they rather here?</p>
<p>Stay away from sports. It’s been done to death.</p>
<p>You could write a beautiful essay about your family and it would be personal, rather than the cliched sports essay.</p>

<p>Agree that sports theme – I learned teamwork, overcame adversity, etc – has been done to death. Takes a skilled writer or really unusual twist to pull off.</p>
<p>Family situation would be much more interesting.</p>
<p>Could you combine the two topics? I would be very interested in reading about the experience of a male high school athlete who has two fathers.</p>
<p>I second what lion said. Why not attempt to cover both topics in one essay. And your family situation is very intriguing. It surely is much more common to have two moms than two dads.</p>
<p>Yep, that would be an unusual twist to the usual jock tale.</p>
