<p>I am in the process of writing my common app essay, and am writing on the importance and value of students playing sports. Should I continue with this topic? I am confident in my writing abilities, but I am not a hugely creative writer.</p>

<p>Personal opinion, make sure that the essay is actually about you! If you do go with this essay, make sure you talk about what your SPECIFIC sport did for YOU, not what sports do for students in general. Next, yes, this is a pretty common topic… I think that if you are not in a time crunch, you should maybe try to think of something else. There is a short answer section on the common app where you could write about your sport and what it means to you. That being said, a good essay is one that is well written and describes a lot about you. If you can write an essay that does that with your chosen topic, then go ahead, you should be good-- good essays can really be about anything.</p>
