Are you supposed to write a story? I thought it was an essay where you were basically discussing and answering the topic. Based on a few posted on the forum, they look like stories that you would read to people for fun. Am I missing something?

You write about anything that conveys your personality to the people reviewing your application. Have you seen the topics yet?
Often times many students, recount a certain event that changed them or something similar. In that aspect, you could consider it a story, but it certainly isn’t anything fictional.

If you mean you have to “discuss” a certain topic, no. There’s nothing really to discuss. All there is to do is to explain whatever you’re writing about, but MAKE SURE you answer the prompt you choose.

Some good advice I’ve seen would be that at the end of your essay, colleges should see WHY the certain event or accomplishment or whatever makes you a good fit at the colleges you’re applying to.
