Hey guys, I have a question regarding this particular common app essay - Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
What would categorize as an accomplishment or event? Like would getting a job count and even so, would that be within your culture/comm./family? Just wondering if this question is only regarding things like Quinceanera and other events specifically designed to mark this transition. Thanks!!!

Technically, either of those things would count.
But your Quinceanera is something that happens to you… you turn 15 and you celebrate.
I would MUCH, MUCH rather you write about something you’ve DONE-- like getting that job-- or accomplished or realized, as opposed to merely hitting a particular date on the calendar.
Remember, the point behind this essay is to talk yourself up-- to “give them a reason to say yes!!” Turning 15 and having a big party won’t do it.
My son is doing that essay, and his accomplishment wasn’t something monumental. But it marked a real turning point for him.
Alright Thanks! I’ll definitely talk about the job just wanted to make sure it would count as an accomplishment that marked this transition within my culture, family, community.
Good luck to your son!
