So here's the deal. I submitted my BU application via the Common App last night and paid the app fee and everything (or so I thought). However, the credit card bill email says that the recipient was "Sallie Mae" and now Common App says that I haven't yet submitted my application. This isn't a scam of sorts, is it? I looked up Sallie Mae and apparently it's a student loan company...but shouldn't the application fee be charged for "Boston University" or something? If you have any insight, please share!

Sallie Mae operates the payment processing backend for the Common App. Think of it as sending money through PayPal-- your statement may say that the payment was sent to PayPal, but the actual payment was sent to the person who you intended to send money to.

Sallie Mae is merely an intermediary, as it would be unreasonable to expect Common App to handle all payment processing themselves.

As for the Common App saying that you haven’t submitted your application, have you tried calling Common App customer support? They might be able to help you with this issue.

As well, if it was actually sent, BU should be sending you gateway information. If you receive that, then you should know that your application went through, after all.

I had a problem (misunderstanding) when paying the fees and submitting the app. In short, I payed the fees thinking CA had also submitted my app (it left me in a confirmation page, so I thought I was done) but no, all I had done was pay the fee. A week later I realized my mistake and submitted my application.

Not trying to sound stupid, but have you tried “re-submitting” your application? Maybe the same thing happened to you.

I do think that after you pay the fee there is one more step to submit the application. I also have a friend who didn’t realize the last step for a few days.
