I am trying to pay my application for Boston University and this is the message I keep getting. "Your payment, detailed below, was declined due to the following reason(s): FAILURE VM" I tried it with multiple credit cards! Please help!!! This application is due on January 1st!

Try logging out and logging back in.

I just tried logging out and in and the same message kept popping up!!!

Just made this account to let you know you’re not the only one having the problem. I am having the exact same issue with BU. I have tried multiple different cards and it has failed to work each time. I have been successful with two other schools and their payment, but each of them had a January 2nd deadline so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks ZOndar. Actually…I finished my payment to University of Rochester and it is due on January 1st (same as BU) so I don’t think it’s the due date.

I’ve been having the same problem! I’ve tried with three different cards, and none of them have worked. At first I thought it might have been because I’m an international applicant, but I guess not. What are you guys doing about it? I’m considering trying again later, and if it doesn’t work by the end of the 1st, I’m going to contact the BU admissions office and let them know the problem I had (I took a screenshot of the message it keeps showing me)

Facing same problem here guys. Stupid Failure VM keeps popping up. I think it’s only BU. Tried other schools seem fine.

The Common App support team is aware of an issue that is preventing online payment for Boston University. We are actively working with our payment provider to rectify the problem. You should submit all other required components of your application before the application deadline. Thank you for your patience as we work diligently to resolve this issue.

We’ll post to this thread again once this issue is resolved.

Fee Waivers For The Win, didn’t technically check it off but hopefully it still works ^.^
I’m writing my BU supplement right now but it’s kind of easy since I’ve lived in Boston my whole life :3

Hahah that’s awesome Flytta! Good luck!

I had the same problem with Yale. What should I do for the next? Thanks.

Put the message on the Yale board and search there to see if Common App Outreach is addressing Yale as well.

yhming, please open a support ticket with the Common App support team by clicking on the Help link from within the Common Application. Provide all the details of the error you encountered when attempting to pay Yale’s application fee. If it is indeed the same issue this information will be helpful for our team to work on resolving the issue. Thank you.

CommonApp-just came across another Yale applicant w same problem. Will try to find them and share your message.

CommonApp, I cross posted your message about filing a report on the Yale thread so folks are doing so but are confused because they then receive a message referring to the BU problem. The problem has also cropped up at Yale, FYI.

A makeshift solution to use is to send an e-check. Worked fine for me.

Try using a debit card/echeck. Usually more reliable and processed faster than credit card payments.

I was having this problem and freaking out. Do the checking account option! It finally went through for me!
Fingers crossed for Yale!

have the same problem here. Is there a solution now?

now instead of saying “Failure VM” it saids “Invalid ID Error”
does that mean they are currently fixing it?
