Is it really the new change that the common app will be capped at 500 words? I thought i read it from somewhere that it was a misinterpretation and worded incorrectly by commonapp?
I just started writing a rough draft on my essay, and i really dont want it to be at 500 because i have so many good things to say

The “suggested limit” is 500. It’s not a hard cap. Being a good writer though means being able to condense all those good ideas into a concise paper

Sorry for bumping this up, but I’m getting conflicting answers. According to the washington post and a Common App official, it is a hard cap

[Common Application sets 500-word limit on main essay - The Answer Sheet - The Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/post/common-application-sets-500-word-limit-on-main-essay/2011/06/02/AGZg7WHH_blog.html)

^ This complicates things a lot for everyone if it’s true hahaha

Bumping this…

Does anyone know for sure whether our essay will be cut off after 500 words?

My essay is 500 words just in case haha

bumping this up one last time because this 500 words is really cramping my style or lack thereof

I’m pretty sure it’s a hard cap. If it’s like 503 words, it probably won’t matter, but if it’s 1500 words it will. To give a rough estimate of 500 words it’s 2 pages, double spaced.

I know they gonna read every single word you wrote, but ~550 words are good enough.
