This may be a naive question to some, but first timer here. I know that there are many colleges that accept common app. Does this mean that, the student fills only one application and can send the same form to all the colleges that accept common app?
Yes, that is correct.
- You complete all sections of Common App
- add colleges that you want to apply
- Submit with the college required fees (separate for each college) or fee-waiver if you qualify
If any of your colleges require a supplemental essay, then they get added to your Common App.
There is a limit to the number of colleges you can send via Common App. ( I think it is 20, but confirm)
Just make sure all the colleges you are interested in, accept Common App.
Don’t be fooled though that there is just the common app essay and that’s it. My D applied to 8 schools and had 19 essays to write because of all the school specific supplements.
Some states have their own system like ApplyTexas.
Thanks. In addition to extra essays, can there also be additional questions to specific colleges?
Yes every college on my daughter’s list has a specific section with questions as well as specific recommendations for the college. It’s where they ask which major you’re interested for example or if you’re a legacy.
