Common App Supplement Essay

I find these essay prompts to be very...odd. I'm at a loss of words of where to even begin with the first prompt. And with the second one, I have ideas of what to write about that will truly express who I am and give my voice, but I'm worried it will sound more like a silly day dream or rant rather than a college application essay. They're allowing a 650 word limit too.

Prompt 1: From small, faculty-led classes to funded undergraduate research, the University of Richmond offers the benefits of both a liberal arts college and the opportunities and resources only found in large research universities. Tell us how you would utilize these resources in order to reach your goals.

Prompt 2: Tell us about Spiders.

What do you think of the prompts? Which did you (or which would you) go with?

My son did prompt 2.

Son chose prompt #2 and had a blast writing it. It sounded like a science fiction short story.

Keep in mind that a spider is the school mascot and the students are known as “spiders”

I did prompt 1 and I got accepted. Just research the university and combine your ideas and interests with programs that UofR offers to its students.

My son did prompt 1, taking the approach described by @Aldonoah. He applied RD so no word yet.

@Putterer Good Luck ^^

Thanks :slight_smile:
