<p>Does anyone have a list of common app topics that admission counsellors say are overused, boring, unoriginal, inappropriate etc? My teacher said there was such a list. I can't seem to find one. If you do know any donts (topics you should not write about), please post them here as many of my peers are wondering as well.</p>
<p>Common ones are community service/study abroad trips to another country. (Don’t list accomplishments or extra curriculars)
Death of a loved one or pet
Someone who has had great influence on you
Sports Championships or winning moments
Describing your room or your pets
Anything controversial like politics and religion</p>
<p>Your parents divorce
How poor you are
Your boyfriend/girlfriend
There’s more but I could go on forever…</p>
<p>Do a google search on cliche college essay topics- you’ll find a lot of helpful info.</p>
