I know that all schools should have no preference but they have a million small questions in their own application that makes me think they want more information then what the common application asks for. Also the other reason why i think they might prefer their own application is cuz for the common app they don't even have a supplement. Maybe they think all the people applying common app are doing it just cuz its free and all the people applying with their own application will put in more time cuz they care about getting in. I havent visited their campus, any admissions rep, any alumni, but i've been on their mailing list for a really long time. Should i apply via their personal app?

All schools that use the common app sign a statement that says they will not distinguish between the common app and their own app. One of the admissions officers told me that Carleton was one of the early schools to use the common app, so they take that pledge seriously.

I would go with Carleton's own app anyway, just because you can use the same essay and the rest is just simple questions. I think it gives you the opportunity to present yourself more favorably, since the questions are open-ended.

Hey guys, I'm in a dilemma. I already sent part I of Carleton's own app (let's call this A) about 3 months ago. But now, I want to submit the common app, so do you think I need to withdraw A or when the admissions office receive my common app, they'll automatically ignore A?? Any advice????? I already e-mailed the admissions office but haven't got any reply. Any input would be highly appreciated, pls!

Btw, perfectangelt16, just go with whichever one you're most comfortable with. G'luck!

my 2 cents...

Carleton's app is very hard to fill (with all those huge space as well)...
If you have time, go ahead....
If you don't, you can probably squeeze some tidbits about Carleton into your common app essay and they should see your interest in the college......
