Generally, what do we write for the short answer for the Common Application? Do we basically describe the activity or do we actually write a personal essay about the activity?

I'm wondering that too. Its difficult to be creative in 150 words, and I hear that most colleges are strict about that limit. so I'm bumping this up. would any successful past applicants be willing to share what they wrote or provide any tips? the question's pretty vague, so I'm not sure what they expect.

It's been a week . . . does anyone have an answer?

bump.................?

do both. i wrote about my job and how what it means to me

I'm in a similar situation, and don't have a good answer so much as a guess... They really limit you on special honors within that club/activity/whatever, so I plan on expanding on that, as well as (in my case) the comradery and personal growth experiences the team gave me. But I think colleges realize that 150 words is very little and they won't be getting anything too profound.

I wrote about how working in a homeless shelter for a year reinstated the principles I have already learned in business (my desired major)... I went over by like 10 words. oops.

I wrote about being on student senate and how I grew as a result. This is on my resume but only as an achievement not necessariyl highlighting what it means to me and why I could be a leader in college. Hope it works.
