Common to be contacted pre-acceptance?

D has received phone calls from two schools who have received her application (they don't start informing applicants of their decision until Feb 15), sounds like probably an alumni, thanking her for applying, asking her what made her decide to apply, what she planned to study (I guess they don't have a copy of her application in hand, or they would know those answers), whether she had any questions (she didn't). Are these calls common? I imagine the larger schools wouldn't make the time. I'm wondering if she should have some questions in mind...

Just sounds like an interview. Pretty common.

Well, she already did interviews when she visited the schools.

I think they're trying to give her a warm and fuzzy feeling about the school. I think they like her and want to make her feel good.

could fall into one of two areas. You'd probably get more specific replies if you mention the school names so you can find out what's happening with other kids; its unlikely your D is the only one they're calling, esp. if they don't even have much info about her, so you aren't giving away your anonymity.

the 2 areas are general sales calls and bona fide recruiting. Some schools call all their applicants, and I know people that have received calls from a current student asking about the same things. These are sales calls, the schools know their applicants are going to have lots of options and want to keep the school up there in their mind. It wouldn't hurt to have some questions but probably doesn't matter that much.

The other kind of calls are where schools have identified particularly promising applicants and are calling them for the same reason, to keep the school in their mind. Often with these calls they offer to act as a resource to answer any questions, they may be invited to apply for special scholarships, etc. If the person left their number for future contact its more likely to be this.
