Commonapp Disciplinary History question

So for the discipline history it says:

"Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at any educational institution you have attended from the 9th grade (or the international equivalent) forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in a disciplinary action? These actions could include, but are not limited to: probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution."

Does this include a Saturday detention I got once back in 10th grade? I'm usually a good student and I follow all the rules, I just got really unlucky that time and was involved in a complicated situation that resulted in Saturday detention for me.

Thank you!

I want to know the answer to this one as well…I got a three-day detention freshman year because my phone rang in class (not even during a test, for God’s sake) when a friend butt-dialed me -_- Kinda don’t want to mention it, though.

It does count. One Saturday detention though isn’t that bad.

^Wow that sucks bunches.

Actually, I just found this:
[Must Sophomore In-School Suspension Be Reported on College Applications? - Ask The Dean](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/must-sophomore-in-school-suspension-be-reported-on-college-applications.htm)

So I guess colleges are only worrying about the more serious violations. Which is good, because yeah, I don’t want to mention my detention situation either.

I was told that only out of school sanctions would count for that question.

Unless your school has record of it I say put no

Ask your counselor. Your counselor can tell you what he/she will answer for that question.

Detentions don’t count. They’re asking about suspensions and expulsions.

Even in-school suspensions aren’t usually counted (but it depends on the school). I had one, but did not have to report it.

Edit: The silly reasons you’ve all had detentions are exactly why colleges don’t give a crap about them.

do you think referrals count? like if you just got one early in high school and you were informed that it would not go on your permanent record

I hope this is the right place for me to post this question but I am filling in the information on the CommonApp and on the part Disciplinary History I have marked “NO” on each section.

Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at any educational institution you have attended from the 9th grade (or the international equivalent) forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in a disciplinary action? These actions could include, but are not limited to: probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution.
No
Have you ever been adjudicated guilty or convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime? Note that you are not required to answer “yes” to this question, or provide an explanation, if the criminal adjudication or conviction has been expunged, sealed, annulled, pardoned, destroyed, erased, impounded, or otherwise ordered by a court to be kept confidential.
No

but it still wants me to fill in the next part with the “Explanation”.

Can somebody please tell me what the heck did I do wrong?

Bump

I’m not sure why it’s doing that for you. Try pressing the “clear” button and select “No” again. If that’s not it, I have no clue.

I have the same problem

petari95 Did you academically accelerate (skip a grade)?

@RedSeven what happened with you, did colleges accept you and not see the suspension?

@megs11 I want to know about referrals too! I dont even know if they go on transcripts or not, i hope not. But what shoud we answer for that question then if we just got a referral.
