commonapp main essay

would writing the commonapp essay about the Egyptian Revolution be considered a good idea, or would it be a cliche for an Egyptian applicant?

I don’t understand… how is this relevant to any of the topics?

The common app essay is to convey personal qualities. Writing about something like this won’t do that. So the answer is no, probably not a good idea.

Do you live in Egypt? Did the events have a personal impact on you?

It totally depends on how you write it. If you show yourself as a victim then you’d be making a pretty weak case. Try to write about the significant impact it has had on your personality and how it had made you the person you are today. Also about how you dealt with the problems it caused for you. But overall it’s a very risky topic.

Umm. No. Unless u took part in it, no

I’m not sure if “cliche” is the right word… I’d say it’s more unusual? I, too, am confused how this relates to any of the topics, but why not start drafting and see where it takes you. Good luck

thanks for your replies,
as for how it relates to a topic: I thought about choosing the “place or environment where you are perfectly content” one and writing it about Tahrir square, what I felt there during the protests and how it affected my personalty and I already wrote a draft for it. So, do you think it would be too risky?

HEY Y’ALL! So about this Common App. I got some ideas, but I’m not sure they’re particularly creative. I mean, is it just me, or are the prompts kind of constraining? No longer can we analyze the importance of the pickle and apply it to the concept of life. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it is a big change from the abstract, profound essays of past years.
Let’s discuss and get those brains working!
